Game Recap

The Mustangs 58-52 victory over rival Northview earned them the first boys’ basketball Western Indiana Conference crown since the merger into the conference’s new east-west format. This was Edgewood’s first conference championship since 2009.

Edgewood jumped out quickly to a 22-6 first quarter lead, but struggled with foul troubles throughout the second quarter as the Knoghts battled back into the game..

Northview pulled within 28-22 with 2:15 left in the half before Bybee and Cradick 3s temporarily slowed the Knights’ charge. Edgewood took a 35-24 lead into intermission. A 7-0 Northview start to the second half cut the lead to 4 and then a Northview 3 to beat the third quarter buzzer saw them close to 43-40.

Northview closed the lead to 52-50 with 1:55 left. But the Mustangs patiently worked the ball until a Tanner Thomas pass found Bybee open at the top of the key for a dagger 3!

Bybee (15 points), Kido (13, hitting 7 of 8 free throws) and Cradick (11) joined Patton in double-figures (a double-double again by the the way) for Edgewood (12-6).

The Mustang boys host Monrovia at 7:30 p.m. today.
