Game Recap

Tough loss last night as the Lady Mustangs volleyball team took on rival Owen Valley. Both teams fought hard and ended up playing 5 very close sets but in the end the mental mistakes got the best of the Mustangs. The adrenaline was high in the first set which caused the Mustangs to have some serving errors and make mistakes that caused them some points and in result giving the Patriots the win. The second and third set they were more prepared, more focused and more aggressive. The serving errors were minimized and the defense pulled together to make some amazing plays which secured them the win in both sets. Jenna LaRoche (11 digs), Abby Brinegar (10 digs) and Ella Morris (6 digs) held strong in defense allowing Mallorie Fulk (13), Shelby Baugh (18) and Melea Shockney (11) to be on fire at the net with a combined 42 kills. The fourth set the girls started getting tired and lost some of the momentum that they had. They pushed through and fought back but it was a little to late. In the fifth and final set the Mustangs pulled ahead with some aggressive serving but the mental mistakes returned, the Patriots capitalized on them and quickly started closing the gap. With the score tied at 14, Edgewood just couldn’t find a way to put the ball over the net ending with a couple mistakes to finish the game in Owen Valley’s favor. Kendall Souder ended with an impressive 44 assists, 6 points, 3 aces and 4 blocks, Maddie Hartley served up 9 points, had 4 kills and 2 blocks and Celeste Orlowski had 7 points, 4 kills and 1 block. It might have been a loss on paper but the Mustangs put up an amazing fight and showed all of us what they are capable of doing. The team wants to thank ALL of the fantastic fans that we have supporting us. You were a huge part in keeping us motivated, positive and you helped us fight as hard as we did. Thank you. The Edgewood Mustangs will be back at it Saturday at the Bedford North Lawrence Invite! Congratulations to the Edgewood JV team for bringing home a win! GO MUSTANGS!
