Edgewood grabbed an early lead on its way to a 12-8 victory over Bloomington South on Friday. Edgewood took the lead on a home run in the first inning.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as Edgewood collected nine hits and Bloomington South 12
Edgewood captured the lead in the first inning. Edgewood scored three runs when Ryan Stuffle homered with two outs in the first inning.
Edgewood scored five runs in the third inning. The big inning was thanks to a walk by Connor Morton, a single by Stuffle, a fielder’s choice by Josh Chasteen, a single by Sam Saft, and a single by Tanner Kolbe.
Morton earned the win for Edgewood. He went four innings, giving up four runs, six hits, and striking out five. Curtis Cowden threw two innings, as two relievers helped Edgewood finish off the victory. Alex Franklin took the loss for Bloomington South. He tossed two and a third innings, allowing seven runs, three hits, and striking out four.
Kolbe, Stuffle, and Cooper Thacker each collected multiple hits for Edgewood. Thacker, Stuffle, and Kolbe each collected two hits to lead Edgewood.
Trent Richardson, Tommy Richardson, Tyler VanPelt, and Mitchell Gingerich each collected multiple hits for Bloomington South. VanPelt went 2-for-4 at the plate as he led the team with four runs batted in.
