Meet Recap

What was anticipated to be a replay of a tough dual meet last year against the Knights from Northview (the Knights won by 8 points) ended up being a Stampeded by the Stangs!!
The Wood boys won 13 of 16 events and dominated from start to finish in this dual meet. The weather cooperated, not allowing a single rain drop to hit the ground but the temperature was cool and crisp and the gusty wind made it feel like it was closer to 40 degrees even though the thermostat said 51.
The pole vaulting crew of Blake, Waugh, and Fehrenbach completed a clean sweep in that event and finished 1-2-3. All 3 vaulters cleared 10 feet in this meet (might be the first time that has ever happened in school history).
The throws continued to improve and they finished 1-3 in the discus with Colton Bowman PR’ing and grabbing the blue ribbon. Disc also saw sophomore Eithan Jacobs PR and finish with a throw of over 100 feet to nab 3rd place.
Shot put also saw 2 Mustangs score as Eithan Jacobs and JT Waltz finished 2nd and 3rd (36’7 and 34’8).
Noah Bise was the lone jumper in LJ for the Stangs and was able to, once again, clear over 20 feet and secure a 1st place finish.
The boys from the Wood made a clean sweep of the relay races with the closest race happening in the 4×1 as Northview had a slight lead coming off of the 2nd hand off. Ryan Hiatt and Mike Holbrook were able to take the lead back after Cole Hall made up some ground during his portion of the race. A strong finish by Holbrook secured the win by 1 second. In the 4 x4 the A team of Michael, Aydelott, Banister and Cottingham won easily and Edgewoods B team (Strickland, Doering, Bolin, Poling) gave the Northview team all they could handle placing 3rd to NV by .4 tenths of a second.
The hurdle races saw the Stangs compete well as they swept the 110 hurdles. Bolin, Strickland, Strickler lead the charge finishing 1-2-3. The 300 hurdles saw a similar result with Strickland grabbing the blue ribbon and junior Joel Strickler beating out sophomore Nathan Bolin by .1 tenth of a second for the 3rd place finish.
The Stangs had a 2 event winner as Cole Hall dominated the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes. Mike Holbrook ran a strong race and finished 2nd in the 100. Noah Bise looking to add to his repertoire of events competed in the 200 meter dash and looked good as he ran a 24.2 in his first ever 200m dash.
The distance races saw Austin hAskett win the 2 mile race easily and uncontested. It is the 2nd or 3rd meet in a row where Austin has been unchallenged in the race but continues to show his power and dominance by running within seconds of his PR time while not being challenged. The 1600 saw sophomore Cameron Banister run a very strong race and earn himself a blue ribbon as well as a 5 second PR in the mile! Liam Nelson also placed 3rd in the 3200 and was able to PR by over 25 seconds!! Now, that’s movin!!!!
Wrapping up the race recap for the night was a 1-2 finish in the 800 by the Stangs. Harrison Cottingham won the event and Denver Aydelott fought off a strong finish from Northview to grab the 2nd place spot in that race also!
A strong night for the boys from the Wood as they ran away with this dual meet! This coach was happy with the effort, surprised by some of the results and a bit disappointed that NV did not have more to offer in terms of competition. However, I believe NV graduated 16 seniors from last year’s class and that kind of talent and leadership are so very hard to replace in one short season!
We move forward to our last meet of the regular season against OV on Thursday!
Conference awaits us in 8 days and we are geared to go and MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!
