Meet Recap

What a night it was! Sectionals at Bloomington High School North turned out to a great evening for the Stangs from the Wood!
After a 40 minute weather delay started the evening, and after a disappointing time from our 4×8 relayers, the Stangs rallied, out their noses to the grind and began firing on all cylinders to advance as many individuals and relay teams as possible!
On an eveing in which 12 personal records were broken or tide, the Mustangs ended up sending 20 athletes, via 8 events, onto the Regionals in the State series.
Although no one was happy with the time the 4×8 relay team compiled during sectionals and although they did not place in the top 3, their time was still fast enough to earn them a call back and they are seeded 7th in the regionals! (McGlothlin, Aydelott, Michael, Haskett, Kovach, Banister, Poling)
The 4×1 relay team ran their best race of the year and ran a PR time of 44.8 seconds to earn them a 10th place seed in the regionals. With a less than smooth hand-off during the 2nd exchange and the addition of one of our top sprinters, this group is looking to PR again and make some noise at the regionals and earn a top 3 finish for an opportunity to compete at state! ( Hiatt, Hall, Holbrook, Flora, McGlothlin, Raake, Cottingham, Strickler)
In the 300 hurdles, Junior Tyler Strickland continues to impress and improve, running 2 PR’s (in each of his hurdle events) and is seeded 6th in the regionals after a 2nd place finish at sectionals.
Austin Haskett ran a 3 second PR and finished 2nd in sectionals. Austin is seeded 2nd in regionals and the expectation is a state berth!
The 4×4 relay also ran a fast race and PR’d! They finished 3rd at sectionals behind South and North and have increased their performance expectations as they are the 6th seed in regionals. They also are looking to make some noise and earn an opportunity to compete at state! (Cottingham, Aydelott, McGlothlin, McGlothlin, Strickland, Michael, Doering, Hall).
Noah Bise continued on his awesome journey through his junior season of track and field and competed well enough to earn a spot at regionals in both the long jump and the high jump. Noah placed 2nd at sectionals, missing first place by 1 inch! he is motivated more than ever to PR, be a regional champion and earn a shot at the state tourney! He is fast approaching breaking the school record also!
David Brown cleared 5’10 in HJ, which was a 4 inch PR for him and earned a 3rd place finish at sectionals. This qualified him for regionals where he will go in as an underdog with nothing to lose. We still think David has another 2-4 inches in those legs of his and are hoping to have him shine in regionals.
Colton Bowman PR’d by 10 feet in the discus and was originally not in the regionals list. However, he was called back because his throw was one of the next 4 best in the sectionals and he has earned himself an opportunity at regionals. He is seeded 14th and will take the opportunity to make some noise and make the finals and improve on his current PR.
When the dust settled, the Stangs finished 3rd in sectionals which is no easy task! Bloomington North and South were simply too talented and had too much depth for us to really contend with them. However, never daunted, our kids showed up, performed to the best of their ability and EARNED a 3rd place finish in what is a very tough sectional field!

On the season, the Wood moves to a 43-6 overall record with 5 of those loses coming at the hands of BHSN and BHSS. We will continue our mission of sending at minimum 1 relay and 1 other athlete to the state meet on Thursday at BHSN!
