Saturday was the IHSAA Semi-State Cross Country meet in Brown County, and we had our girls team was there to compete, as was Zay Doering as an individual.
In some extremely wet, rainy conditions, Zay posted his fastest time ever on the Brown County course, to improve over his placing at last year’s Semi-State meet. He was 18:15 for 145th place. This past weekend he ran 17:59 which put him in 119th place.
The girls team was looking for their third consecutive trip to the state finals and did just what they needed to survive and advance. Annalyssa Crain led the way through the mud to win her second consecutive semi-state title as an individual. She was 54 seconds ahead of 2nd place finisher and is in a good position heading into next week’s state finals. Clara Crain was 14th overall, and the pair of Emma Bitner and Olivia Werner came in 78th and 85th after working together throughout most of the race. Claire Sherfield was 127th to round out our scoring positions. The gun will sound the start of the girls race at 1:45 on Saturday in Terre Haute at Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
