GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR RETURN TO ATHLETICS FOR EDGEWOOD HIGH SCHOOL

Per Governor Holcomb’s executive order, Indiana Schools are allowed to begin modified athletic workouts starting on July 6, 2020. This plan is written from the guidance from Governor Holcomb, the Indiana Department of Health, the Monroe County Health Department and Indiana High School Athletic Association. The plan will likely change as conditions change locally, regionally or statewide. Revisions to the plan will be sent to families as additional mandates and policies are received by local or state officials.

The Indiana Department of Education released Indiana’s Considerations for Learning and Safe Schools (IN-CLASS) in early June. Included in the document was specific information about the schools resuming athletics and other activities beginning July 6, 2020. A committee consisting of administrators from Edgewood High School, Edgewood Junior High School and the corporation, the corporation nurse, coaches, parents, the high school band director and a representative from the IU Kinesiology Department was formed to develop this document. The following will serves as the guide for the resumption of activities at Edgewood High School and Edgewood Junior High School.

  • Students will bring their own water bottle with their name clearly marked on it.  Bottles may be filled at designated areas with hand sanitizer provided and must be used before handling filling devices.  Water bottles and any personal items will be kept at the proper distance from others.
  • Coaches will be responsible for cleaning any/all equipment used during a workout/practice session especially shared equipment such as: footballs, volleyballs, basketballs, handheld pads, etc.
  • Coaches and custodians will work together to assure that required areas are kept clean and that correct use and storage of necessary disinfectants are available at all times. Any issues with cleaning or sanitizing will be reported to the athletic director.
  • There will be no youth camps.
  • No hosting or traveling to other schools for scrimmages, practices or contests until approval has been received.
  • Athletes and coaches will wear face masks at all times except when in rigorous exercise.
