Coming off a disappointing 18-hole outing against Bloomington North on Monday, the Edgewood boys’ golf team was hoping for a bounce-back performance on Tuesday.
The Mustangs improved, but only slightly, and the result was a tough-luck 173-177 loss to Martinsville on the Pine nine at Cascades Golf Course.
“This was one that was a tossup, but I thought if we played well, we’d win, and we just didn’t play great,” Edgewood coach Garry Lee said. “Not terrible, just not great.”
As it turned out, each of the Artesians’ top four scorers were one shot better than the Mustangs’ top four scorers to provide the difference.
It didn’t make Lee feel any better, especially on his birthday.
“We’re young and make silly mistakes and have to quit doing it,” he said. “We had a chat after we were done, just said it was time to step it up, half the season is over. Hopefully, we’ll get the message.”
