Edgewood stole the lead late and defeated Bloomington South 12-9 on Thursday. Edgewood was down 9-8 in the top of the fifth inning when Ethan Vecrumba homered on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.
Vecrumba led Edgewood to victory by driving in six runs. He went 3-for-5 at the plate. Vecrumba drove in runs on a grand slam in the fourth and a home run in the fifth.
Bloomington South opened up an early lead in the first inning when Teddy Kenny doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
Edgewood notched five runs in the fourth inning. The rally was led by a single by Josh Chasteen and a home run by Vecrumba.
Vecrumba led things off on the rubber for Edgewood. He went one and two-thirds innings, allowing nine runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking one.
Gavin Yeskie led things off on the hill for Bloomington South. He went three and a third innings, allowing eight runs on five hits and striking out three. Zach Bellini, Reid Sills, and Zach Speicher each contributed in relief for Bloomington South.
Edgewood socked three home runs on the day. Vecrumba had a homer in the fourth and fifth innings. Curtis Cowden had a four-bagger in the sixth inning.
Edgewood tallied 11 hits. Cooper Thacker, Vecrumba, and Cowden each had multiple hits for Edgewood. Vecrumba and Thacker each managed three hits to lead Edgewood.
Bloomington South collected 11 hits on the day. Mitchell Gingerich, Mason Vaughn, and Bradley Hartman each collected multiple hits for Bloomington South. Gingerich led Bloomington South with four hits in four at-bats.
