Edgewood stole the lead late in the game in a 10-8 victory over Indian Creek on Wednesday. Edgewood was down 8-7 in the top of the fifth inning when Ethan Vecrumba doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.
Edgewood earned the victory despite allowing Indian Creek to score five runs in the second inning. Indian Creek’s big inning was driven by home runs by Wyatt Phillips and Dawson Read.
Indian Creek took an early lead in the second inning when Read homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Curtis Cowden led the Edgewood to victory on the pitcher’s mound. He lasted five innings, allowing one hit and two runs while striking out five. Logan Slabaugh threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Phillips took the loss for Indian Creek. He went three innings, allowing five runs on six hits and striking out four.
Dustin Sprong started the game for Indian Creek. He lasted four innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out four. Drew Walls started the game for Edgewood. He allowed five hits and five runs over one and one-third innings.
Indian Creek socked three home runs on the day. Read had a four bagger in the second inning. Phillips went for the long ball in the first and second innings.
Edgewood collected 11 hits on the day. Joe Kido, Ryan Stuffle, and Harrison Pittsford each racked up multiple hits for Edgewood. Kido led Edgewood with three hits in five at bats.
Indian Creek totaled nine hits. Sprong and Phillips each managed multiple hits for Indian Creek. Sprong went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Indian Creek in hits.
