Edgewood watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 14-4 loss to Indian Creek on Tuesday. Indian Creek scored on a single by Dawson Read in the first inning and a groundout by Jared DeHart in the second inning.
The Edgewood struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Indian Creek, giving up 14 runs.
In the bottom of the first inning, Edgewood tied things up at one. Evan Whitlow drove in one when he singled.
Indian Creek pulled away for good with two runs in the second inning. In the second DeHart grounded out, scoring two runs.
Edgewood put up three runs in the fourth inning. Edgewood’s offense in the inning came from fielder’s choices by Joe Kido and Cooper Thacker and an error on a ball put in play by Ryan Stuffle.
Indian Creek scored five runs in the fourth inning. Indian Creek’s big inning was driven by singles by DeHart, Dylan Sprong, and Cody Grider.
Trevor Ankney was the winning pitcher for Indian Creek. He allowed three hits and four runs over three and a third innings, striking out four. DeHart and Dustin Sprong entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Thacker took the loss for Edgewood. He went three and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on five hits and striking out five.
Thacker led Edgewood with two hits in three at bats.
Indian Creek racked up 12 hits. Grider, Read, and Wyatt Phillips all managed multiple hits for Indian Creek. Grider went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Indian Creek in hits.
