GOSPORT — With the Western Indiana Conference Tournament just days away, the Edgewood boys’ golf team got a preview of the Rolling Meadows Course on which it would be played.
Landon Ringler, for one, liked what he saw. The sophomore shot a career-best 39 for medalist honors as the Mustangs topped host Owen Valley on the back nine, 167-174.
“Landon kept tee shots in play, hit greens and just had three bogeys with six pars,” Edgewood coach Garry Lee said. “He really could’ve shot even par but for a few missed birdie putts. He was hitting the ball well. I’d love for him to keep doing that.”
Jackson Wendel added a 41, overcoming a quadruple bogey, Brand Guthrie had 43 and Parker Harrington 44 for the Mustangs, who hope to improve just a little bit in the conference tourney on Saturday.
“The guys were talking afterwards that if they just did this or that, we could’ve been around 160 or under,” Lee said. “That’s an awesome round for Landon, and if Jackson and Brandt shave a few strokes, we could get two or three on the all-conference team.”
