BRAZIL — The Edgewood boys’ golf team knows the number it has to hit in order to have a chance to advance at sectional.
On Tuesday night, the Mustangs took another small step in the right direction with a 169 total, outpacing host Clay City (181) and Bloomfield (204).
We’ve been right there between 166 and 174 almost every time out it seems like,” Edgewood coach Garry Lee said. “We just have to find a way to take a few more strokes off at each position.”
Jackson Wendel did his job at Forest Park Golf Course, sharing medalist honors with Clay City’s Justin Hopkins with a 38.
Landon Ringler bounced back from a tough day at the WIC Tournament to shoot 40, followed by Brandt Guthrie with a 44 and Owen Young’s 48.
“Jackson hit a couple wayward drives, but other than that he was solid,” Lee said. “Landon had a three-putt bogey and a double bogey on the last two holes, but he was 1-over otherwise, so that’s encouraging.
“Brandt was 1-over through five, then limped home, and Owen just has to work on chipping. He’s been putting pretty well.”
