SPENCER — Jackson Wendel fired a 38 for medalist honors to lead the Edgewood boys’ golf team past host Owen Valley and shorthanded Brown County at Rolling Meadows on a windy Thursday.
Landon Ringler added a 43, Brandt Guthrie a 44 and Parker Harrington made the top four for the first time with a 45 as the Mustangs scored a 170, to top OV (182) and BC (214), which played without usual No. 1 Parker VanNess. The Patriots got a 39 from Rece Heckman and a hole-in-one from Brock Rosenberger. Curtis Lookebill led the Eagles with a 49.
Just eight shots divided the top and bottom scores for Edgewood’s six.
“I was actually thinking it might be worse with the wind and being on a different course,” Edgewood coach Garry Lee said. “But maybe we’ve gotten used to traveling and playing on different greens.
“Brandt struggled with his putting. Jackson had a couple bogeys he needs to tighten up. And if we can get Parker to trend like that all the time, that would be awesome. Landon had a couple of hiccup holes, but he’s playing pretty good and trending in the right direction, too. I’ll take the win, but I’d like to think we can get in the 160s, we just need to get them all together at the same time.”
