BRAZIL — A long bus ride and a new course added up to a win on Tuesday night for the Edgewood boys’ golf team.
Playing at Oak Ridge Golf Course for the first time, a par-37 layout on the front nine, Jackson Wendel shot a 2-over 39 to take medalist honors and lead the Mustangs to a 175-195 victory over South Putnam.
“To go on the road and play someplace none of us has ever seen and get a win, I can’t really complain,” Edgewood coach Garry Lee said. “Jackson was actually kind of upset because he made two bogeys just as the result of not playing there before.”
Landon Ringler added a 44, Brandt Guthrie 45 and Owen Young 47 to round out the Mustangs’ scoring.
“Owen thought he was playing awful, but he wound up as our fourth score,” Lee said. “Landon had seven bogeys and two pars. He hit the ball well, just didn’t score.”
Edgewood returns to action Thursday against Bedford North Lawrence before taking part in the Bloomington North Invitational Saturday at Cascades.
