After holding the lead for most of the game, the Edgewood Freshmen surrendered it late in the 4th quarter and needed a driving basket by Xzander Hammonds to tie the score with 11 seconds remaining. Fortunately, the defense held and the game went into overtime, where it was all Edgewood, and the Mustangs came away with a 41 – 32 victory over Monrovia.
For the game, Edgewood shot an impressive 16 of 18 from the free throw line, including 7 for 7 in the overtime period to put the game away.
Hammonds led the Mustangs with 16 points, while Joe West added 11 and Nick McCullough had 9. Rounding out the scoring for Edgewood was Zach Fulk with 4 points and Kannon Collier with 1.
Fulk and McCullough led the way on the boards, pulling down 7 rebounds each.
The Freshmen Mustangs are back in action on Monday night when they travel to Spencer to face rival Owen Valley.
