Edgewood took the lead late and defeated Portage Central 2-1 on Saturday. The game was tied at one with Edgewood batting in the top of the eighth when Coleman Sater singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Luke Hayden struck out nine, while Portage Central pitchers sat down seven.
Portage Central got things started in the first inning when Max Longman hit a solo homer.
In the top of the sixth inning, Edgewood tied things up at one. Cooper Thacker singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.
Hayden earned the win for Edgewood. He surrendered one run on three hits over eight innings, striking out nine and walking zero.
Aidan Eichman took the loss for Portage Central. He surrendered zero runs on three hits over one inning, striking out two and walking zero.
Ryan Dorff started the game for Portage Central. He went seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out five and walking one
Edgewood racked up nine hits in the game. Sater and Joe Kido each collected multiple hits for Edgewood. Kido and Sater each managed two hits to lead Edgewood. Edgewood didn’t commit a single error in the field. Tyler Marotz had the most chances in the field with ten.
