The Edgewood Lady Mustangs used the inside game to defeat Northview in Game 1 of the Girls Sectional, 52-33. With Northview face guarding leading scorer Chelbie Andeson, Edgewood looked to Trista Helms and Kaiden Harrington to do damage in the interior. With a patient perimeter play, Edgewood kept feeding the ball in the high and low post leading to several baskets. Helms finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds, Harrington went 12 and 10 with a team leading 5 assists. Taylor Minnick played a solid all around game finishing with 11 points and limiting the offensive game of Northview’s high scoring guards. Carly Sherfield also played a great defensive game with 5 deflections and 4 steals while also hitting a big early three leading to 6 points and running the show at point guard. Edgewood only committed 8 turnovers in the game. Zoe Powell contributed 4 points and Cara Clark had three. While not scoring, Anderson and fellow senior Alle Spear helped limit Northview to just three 3 pointers made and only 2 offensive rebounds. Edgewood moves to the semifinals facing Brownstown Friday at 7:30 PM.
