After shooting 52% in their opening game, the Edgewood Freshmen couldn’t find the range at all in a 40 – 33 loss to West Vigo in the consolation game of the John Foutch Memorial Tournament.
Finding themselves down 35 – 15 midway through the 3rd quarter, the Mustangs stormed back and got to within 5 points with 2 minutes left. However, their rally was cut short when they couldn’t convert from close range following a steal and West Vigo scored on the other end, and Edgewood wasn’t able to get that close again.
In the end, while the Mustangs defense came up with 12 steals and forced numerous other turnovers, they couldn’t overcome their poor shooting, as they connected on a paltry 28% from the field and 52% from the free throw line.
Joe West again led Edgewood with 13 points and 6 steals, while Nick McCullough added 9 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. In addition, Xzander Hammonds chipped in 7 points and 3 steals, Zeke Weisner had 3 points, and Kannon Collier had 2 points and 6 rebounds to complete the Mustangs’ scoring.
Edgewood will try to get back on the winning track on Wednesday evening when they host Bloomington South.
