It was a tale of two halves, and the Edgewood freshmen nearly overcame a dreadful first half with a furious 4th quarter rally. In the end, the Mustangs couldn’t quite climb out of the hole they had dug for themselves in a 48 – 44 loss to Shoals in the opening game of the John Foutch Memorial Tournament.
Edgewood gave up seven 3-pointers in the first half and fell behind by as many as 20 points before going to the locker room with a 18 point deficit. Ramping up the defensive intensity, the Mustangs fought all the way back, trailing by only 3 points with under a minute to play and having a wide open shot to tie the game. Unfortunately, that shot didn’t go in and Edgewood had to settle for a trip to the consolation game.
Aiden Georges led the Mustangs with 15 points, while a trio of Edgewood players–Cam Ingalls, Brayden Robinson, and Henry Doering–added 7 points each. Completing the scoring for the Mustangs were Cayden Howard and Gabe Headdy with 3 points apiece and Josh Webb with 2 points.
