The Edgewood freshman team overcame an 8 point halftime deficit on their way to an exciting 67 – 56 overtime win at Cascade. The host Cadets came out red-hot, hitting their first 5 three pointers, but the Mustangs clawed back with aggressive play on both ends of the floor to tie the game on two clutch free throws by Gabe Headdy and a Cam Ingalls 3-pointer that sent the game into overtime. In the extra period, Edgewood dominated by hitting 11 of 14 free throws to win going away.
The Mustangs got positive contributions from all 7 players who got in the game, and were led in the scoring column by Henry Doering and Cayden Howard who poured in 18 points each. This duo continually attacked the basket to draw fouls, and hit an impressive 23 out of 28 combined from the free throw line. The two also led Edgewood’s rebounding effort, with Doering pulling down a season-high 11 and Howard adding 5.
Doering and Howard were hardly alone in their strong play however, as Cam Ingalls scored 12 points (including his game-tying 3), and Brayden Robinson had his best game of the season with 9 points, numerous steals, and several hustle plays before going down with a sprained ankle late in the 4th quarter. In addition, Aiden Georges tallied 8 points to go along with leading the team in steals, and Gabe Headdy had the aforementioned 2 key free throws and several deflections at the defensive end.
With the win, the young Mustangs improved to 3 – 1 on the season. Their next game will be Tuesday, December 11 at home against Orleans.
