Even though their shots weren’t falling, the Edgewood Freshmen played with much more energy than they had in their last 2 games. And in the end, it finally paid off in a hard-fought 31 – 24 win at South Putnam.
Edgewood led by one at the first break, but then trailed for the rest of the game until two Xzander Hammonds free throws tied it at 24 with about 3 minutes left in the game. From there, the Mustangs held the Eagles scoreless and ended the game on an overall 12 – 2 run to come home with the victory.
Hammonds led Edgewood with 12 points while Joe West added 11–including 3 big free throws with no time on the clock to narrow the margin to 1 at the half. Rounding out the scoring for the Mustangs was Nick McCullough with 4 points, and Zach Fulk and Zeke Weisner with 2 points each.
Edgewood battled hard on the boards, where McCullough pulled down a team-high 5, West grabbed 4, and Fulk and Weisner had 3 each.
The Mustangs play again at home on Saturday as part of a Freshmen/JV/Varsity triple header against Monrovia.
