The JV Mustangs pulled out a thrilling 64 – 63 overtime victory against visiting Bloomington North. Edgewood nursed a small lead throughout the first half, only to see the Cougars close the gap in the 3rd quarter. The fourth quarter was a see-saw battle, and North scored with just a few seconds remaining to go up by 3. However, Sean Sims was able to find just enough space to hit a step-back 3 pointer just before the buzzer to send the game into overtime and give the Mustangs new life.
The Cougars jumped out quickly in the OT period, scoring the first two baskets to go up by four, but Edgewood battled back, and once again the game was nip-and-tuck into the closing seconds. And once again, Bloomington North scored to go up by 2 with only 5 seconds remaining. After a timeout, Caden Huttenlocker worked his way open on the right wing and was fouled shooting a 3-pointer as the horn sounded. He then stepped to the line and calmly sank all 3 free throws to lift the Mustangs to the exciting victory.
On the scoreboard, Huttenlocker and Sims dominated for Edgewood–scoring 27 and 24 points respectively, with Sims also grabbing 5 rebounds and swiping 4 steals. In addition, Landon Ringler scored 7 points, while Aiden Georges had 4 points to go along with a team-high 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Finally, Henry Doering scored 2 points and also passed out 3 assists.
The JV Mustangs are now off until they host Orleans on Saturday, February 15.
