The Edgewood JV got off to a fast start, sprinting out of the gate to lead 10 – 2. As it turned out, they needed every bit of that early lead. The Mustangs kept the lead throughout the first half, but a sluggish 3rd quarter left them looking at a 6 point deficit going into the 4th.
However, with the score tightening late in the 4th quarter, the visiting Bulldogs lost their composure, as their leading scorer picked up his 5th foul and was whistled for a technical for complaining. Caden Huttenlocker hit the technical FT’s and Edgewood held the lead until a Monrovia basket with 5.7 seconds remaining put the visitors up by 1.
After a timeout, Huttenlocker took the inbounds pass and went the length of the court for the game-winning layup at the buzzer, vaulting the Mustangs to a 65 – 64 victory.
Huttenlocker led Edgewood with 22 points, while Sean Sims and Landon Ringler both added 13. Rounding out the scoring was a trio of Mustangs– Aiden Georges, Brayden Robinson, and Henry Doering–who scored 6 points apiece.
Edgewood plays again on Thursday evening, when they will host Bloomington North.
