Zeke Powell’s 3-pointer from the right wing with 1.4 seconds remaining propelled Edgewood to a thrilling 53 – 51 victory over host Terre Haute North in the opening round of the Wabash Valley Classic. After letting a 6 point lead get away in the closing minute, the Mustangs salvaged the win as Coleman Sater drew a crowd of defenders in the lane and was able to find Powell for the game-winner. The game wasn’t sealed until the officials determined that the last-gasp basket the Patriots made at the other end came just after the buzzer.
Sater led Edgewood with 21 points and 5 rebounds, while Powell added 14 points. In addition, Caden Huttenlocker scored 7 points, Sean Sims had 6, Aiden Georges had 3 points (to go along with 4 rebounds) and Landon Ringler had 2 points to complete the scoring for the Mustangs.
Edgewood moves on to face West Vigo at 6:00 PM on Monday evening at Terre Haute South.
Also of note, prior to the start of the game, Coleman Sater was honored as the recipient of the tournament’s FCA Character Counts Award. Congratulations Coleman!
