The Edgewood Mustangs remained perfect on the young season, defeating their second 4A school in as many tries with a 67 – 64 victory at Martinsville. Points were hard to come by in the first half, but tough defense kept Edgewood within striking distance and they ended the period down by only 2 points. However, the Mustangs amped up the intensity and sped the game up en route to a 23-12 third period to take control of the game.
In the fourth quarter, Edgewood was able to withstand a Martinsville rally by taking care of the ball and hitting enough free throws to keep the Artesians at bay and improve to 2 – 0.
Trevor Taylor led the Mustangs with 28 points, including 12 in the 4th quarter to help put the game away. Coleman Sater also came up big with his first career double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds.
Kyle Rogers once again provided a huge spark off the bench and chipped in with 11 points, while Joe Kido added 7 points. Derek Farkas hit two big 3-pointers to begin the game for 6 points, and Cam Banister scored 2 to round out the scoring for Edgewood.
The Varsity Mustangs open up conference play next Friday at Cloverdale.
