The Edgewood varsity notched their first win of the season– and the first of the Coach Matt Wadsworth era– with a solid 63 – 50 win over Martinsville. The host Mustangs combined a strong team defensive effort with the hot shooting of Derek Farkas to earn the victory. In addition, Edgewood was able to win the battle of the boards against the much taller Artesians–who went 6′-9″, 6′-7″, 6′-4″ across their front line.
Farkas scored 25 points on 8 of 10 shooting (including 5 3-pointers) to lead the Mustangs’ attack. In addition, Coleman Sater posted his first double-double of the year with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Zeke Powell and Jace Utley both continued their strong play, adding 10 and 8 points respectively, while Parker Harrington added 4 points to go along with 4 rebounds.
Logan Slabaugh scored 3 points and Caden Huttenlocker had 2 to complete the scoring for Edgewood. And though he didn’t score, Sam Kido played a strong floor game, dishing out 5 assists and grabbing 4 rebounds while making life difficult for the opposing guards.
The Mustangs open Western Indiana Conference play next Friday when they host Cloverdale.
