Trailing by 12 at the half, and by 14 early in the 3rd quarter, Edgewood picked up the intensity on both ends of the floor to post an exciting 69 – 64 win in overtime against visiting Northview. After allowing the Knights to connect on 7 3-pointers in the first half, the Mustangs’ defense forced Northview into missing all 9 of their long-range attempts in the second half.
Edgewood finally tied the score at 48 midway through the 4th quarter, then went back and forth with the Knights until Trevor Taylor’s free throw with 5 seconds left tied the score at 57 and sent the game into overtime.
In the extra period, Zeke Powell and Derek Farkas hit clutch 3-point shots off of assists by Trevor Taylor and Coleman Sater to propel the Mustangs to a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Sater led Edgewood with 23 points (including 13 of 13 from the FT line), 8 rebounds and 4 assists, while Taylor added 16 points and 3 assists. In addition, Powell scored 9 points, Farkas and Parker Harrington had 8 points each, and Sam Kido had 5 points to complete the scoring for the Mustangs.
Edgewood is back in action at home on Friday night when they host Mitchell in this year’s Senior Night game.
